Post Zenkai Post

Zenkaikon was pretty good. I am used to MUCH bigger conventions, but for Charlie's first it was good. I remember my first was the Big Apple Anime Fest in 2003.
Evangelion 2.22 was also REALLY good! Even with the new English dubs. I didn't like Asuka's new voice as much tho.

Here are a few pictures of our cosplays... They aren't very good because they were at the end of the day, in the kitchen, and mustachio'd. Just proving I got everything done! Having a fly and pockets was WONDERFUL. lol.

Details

It's the details that really MAKE a cosplay...

...and it's the details that drive me NUTS.

I am now all done Launch's shirt - buttons, straps, rings, and all. Her shoes I got at Urban Outfitters (oddly enough they had the cheapest ones? Who knew?), and her laces match the colours used in Goku's and Vegeta's outfits. I have a perfect wig, bow, bumpit, eyelashes, socks, eyebrow technique, and her shorts with the pockets on the back and a red belt to match.
But what am I forge--- The gloves. The fingerless gloves. *head-desk*
Zenkaikon is NOW! I am only going on Saturday, but the little things I forgot are keeping me inside on this beauuuuutiful friday!
The other things I am just getting done are Vegeta's shoes and gloves. Merrrrrrrrhhhhhh!!!

And IRL is catching up to me today. I sold my motorcycle to a friend so I can get a bigger one. He's coming over today to learn how to ride it. If anyone knows where I can get a Café Racer in the Philly area for about $2,000 that would be GREAT! >A<;
Not to mention I need to get my friends all caught up on Evangelion 1.11 so they can see 2.0 which is screening at Zenkai!!!
Plan: Sew till my fingers fall off, ride my motorcycle till my ass falls off, and then drink tonight till my feet fall off. Then I will REALLY look like Launch tomorrow without trying.
がんばれ!!!

Thig' Meat

This evenings festivities included alot of farting (on Charlie's part) alot of brain farting (on my part) and alot of face palming (on Art's part).
I gave Charlie the kanji that Goku sports in the particular section of Z that I am working from so he could draw out the stencil. Using contact paper and some Tulip Spray Stencil Paint, we got two REALLY good patches!

Then the fun starts.
I am using Somewhat Stretchy's bodysuit drafting instructions because I've never made a guy's bodysuit before. There is some math involved, and I am GOD AWFUL at math. So with some help from Charlie and Excel, I was kinda able to make the pattern from Art's body measurements @ 90%.

It's going to be funny if we have a repeat of when I accidentally got 2-way stretch PVC instead of 4-way...
But so far so good.
The problems were in me speaking dyslexic standard numerics and Charlie speaking mirrored and 1/4ed Metric numbers at 90%... big mess! I have a very nice pattern with no crotch, none the less.

Muffin Button

Casual update on the Son Goku cosplay. Stayed up all night working on it and as of 3am have this:

It took me about 10 hours start to finish.
I didn't use a pattern but instead had an old t-shirt that fit Charlie (Goku) in exactly the way I needed it to, and cut it up to work from. The lower half was drafted from a pair of Art's (Vegeta) martial arts pants. This worked out really well because I was able to put in a very active-movement-friendly gusset in the crotch for my very accident prone Goku. He is a professional actor and fight choreographer who has a habit of ripping the crotch seam of his costumes on stage.
The shirt was drafted from the same old T but made to fit his body in a tighter way, and has a cowl neck like the pictures always show.
One last thing: those bunchy NKEES. I made the front of the jumpsuit wider and longer than the back starting at the mid-thigh, and put in pleats facing down on the outside seam, and up on the inside seam, tapering down to the foot. That way the pants bunch and fold like they do in the anime!
Pictures of him wearing it later, along with the patches and boots.

Zooming towards Zenkaikon at DBZ speed

I had only intended to make these cosplays for Charlie and Art for Otakon, but because a few friends expressed interest in Zenkaikon, I decided to fast-track them and get them done in time for that! Then, I can work out any kinks really early rather than have a mid-August disaster. So today I ordered the orange and blue fabrics for Charlie (Goku)'s costume, and Art (Vegeta)'s navy spandex. My wig will come from my next paycheck and I will be going as Bad Launch. It will be my first time styling a heat-resistant wig on my own, so I will update my misadventures on that when it gets here.
Charlie and Art are PERFECT for Goku and Vegeta! Art is 5'3" and Charlie is 5'11" (just a little taller than Goku's 5'7") which are the perfect heights for this:

Also, they are both extremely talented martial artists so maybe a display of male prowess is in store?
I personally picked Launch over Bulma because she is done so little. I really like her and her badas
s self!

The wig I am planning on using is this one, plus alot of Farah Fawcett flipped out curls and wig hairspray.
